Before the 401 Quote Series was born, and before The 401 Book had a name, author David Hooper fell in love with the number, 401. Hooper explained the significance of the number on the first episode of The 401 Show, "It's one of the numerical representations for Jesus, the Son of God in the Bible. In Revelation 1:8 Jesus refers to himself as the "Alpha and Omega" (A and Z, Greek Septuagint), or "The beginning and end." In the original Hebrew, it would be the 'Aleph and Tav'. It's like the letter A and Z of the Hebrew alphabet. Using Gematria, a system widely used in Aramaic and ancient Hebrew, letters are given numerical values in an alphabet. In the same way that the letter "i" equals one, and the letter "v" has a value of five in Latin, in Aramaic (or ancient Hebrew), Aleph has a value of 1 (one) and Tav has a value of 400. Hence, to be the Alpha and Omega (or 'Aleph and Tav' is to be the '401'.

His is the only name which has cut a line through history, nations, families and individual hearts, and the only one to predict his early death would manifest itself in this exact way; a bold claim for a 32-year old anonymous carpenter about to be the zillionth person executed by the Romans. Many Old Testament references to Jesus using different names still add up to a value of 401, making it easier to trace Him in the Old Testament, before He was introduced to the world in the New. It's my personal opinion that your individual assessment of exactly who He was will determine the destination of the most important trip we are all guaranteed to take, but rarely prepare for. Once I knew it was real, I could never do anything else.

RESEARCH BEHIND THE BOOK
Close to 2,000 quotes have been meticulously researched with detailed original citations for each, except in a few rare cases, in which second-hand quotes, like deathbed confessions are included. David Hooper individually researched and studied each quote in it's original context. Each quote has, at least, one source citation, to an original (or credible) source. Some popular Internet quotes aren't included as the author was unable to find a credible source. Below, are a few comments by author, David Hooper.
CAN YOU GIVE US AN EXAMPLE OF A QUOTE YOU REMOVED?
HOOPER: "There's a stunning quote attributed to JFK [John F. Kennedy] which has become popular on the Internet, and it goes something like this, 'There's a plot to enslave every man, woman and child in the United States, and I must use this high office to inform the public of it's plight,' [sic] and several variations along those lines. Over a three-day span, I think I read or listened to almost everything JFK ever wrote or said and I could not find a strong enough source, so it's not in The 401 Book. But! [emphasis his] I did find a few other stunners no one really talks about, which are in the book. Now, if you were to ask me if I believe he thought [emphasis his] there was a plot like that, I would guess that, yes, he did, but the earliest attribution I could find for that quote was dated in 1968 as hearsay; five years after his death. Not strong enough for The 401 Book. Maybe that answers your question about the qualification each quote went through before it was approved?"
WHY SUCH EMPHASIS ON SOURCES AND CITATIONS?
HOOPER: "Aside from my general disdain of inaccuracy, there are some really popular - and lazy - debunking sites that pretty much exist to debunk anything that might reveal the truth, so we had to make sure each quote was backed up with a rock-solid citation, so those blanket-quote-debunking sites - which magically appear at the top of search results - won't be able to apply any of their standard, and often-ridiculous reasons for dismissing factual quotes. I think if you're involved in that type of information subversion, you're involving yourself in things much, much bigger than you, and with forces you clearly don't understand, and - maybe - you should take a deep look in the mirror before proceeding."
